Eden in the Wild Participation & Support Guidelines

Last updated on 14 Sept, 2026

We strive to make this trip as accessible as possible while balancing the needs of the full group, trip logistics and feasibility, and overall safety. Our hope is that most campers who have grown up at Eden Village are able and excited to participate in this program. Due to the nature of the travel and backcountry components of the trip, we are not able to guarantee the same level of accommodations and support that you and your camper may have come to expect. The trip occurs away from our regular medical team, camper care team and professional kitchen team. Without those on-site supports and professional staff teams there are some needs we are not able to safely accommodate on the road.

For these reasons, we are unable to accommodate the following on Eden in the Wild:

Allergies and Dietary Restrictions

  • Celiac disease

  • Anaphylactic allergies: will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

  • Multiple overlapping food restrictions: will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. For example, teens who are both gluten-free and nut-free should contact us to discuss their specific circumstances. Teens and staff are cooking every meal for themselves and each other on a camp-stove setup. We are unable to consistently and safely make alternative meals in this environment.

Medical Clearance

All participants must provide a signed healthcare provider clearance confirming that they are medically able to participate in the trip. This form is included in the required health forms packet.

  • Any medical condition or ongoing medical need that may require extra support: must be reviewed and approved by our Health Center Director in advance. Certain medical conditions that require a licensed professional to manage safely will not be accommodated on the trip.

  • Physical limitations or injuries that would prevent a camper from walking 5 miles or carrying 25 pounds daily.

Mental Health Support

  • History of self-harm or inpatient mental health treatment within the year leading up to the summer

  • A history of heavily relying on Lev Squad or Health Center for ongoing support while at camp

Medications

  • Specialty medications not processed by our pharmacy: All medications must be prepared and blister-packed by the camp pharmacy. If you have a medication that can’t be blister packed, we cannot guarantee that your child will be able to take it on the trip.

  • Injected medications

  • Refrigerated medications that need to be administered more than once a week

Participation in the full three-week program is required. We are unable to accommodate participation in only one portion of the trip.

We know that some of these restrictions may be disappointing, especially when your teen has successfully participated in camp programming for years with accommodations that we cannot replicate on the road. We want to be upfront about these limitations rather than put a camper in a situation where we cannot provide the level of care they need.

Our goal is to make sure that every teen who joins Eden in the Wild is able to participate fully, safely, and comfortably in this unique experience. If you have questions about your teen's specific circumstances, please reach out to us so we can talk it through together. If your camper is unable to join the trip, we are happy to offer them another summer in the Malchut program at camp where we can confidently support them fully.
