How do I Determine if I Need to Use McCarthy’s?
All campers need to fill out the McCarthy's Pharmacy Medication Request Form by May 5th.
If your child takes a pharmaceutical medication, a vitamin, a supplement, a homeopathic treatment, or an over-the- counter medication on a regular basis, the parent/guardian needs to list all medications as instructed in the form. Have your provider(s) fill out new prescriptions for all items listed in the form (including over-the-counter medication). McCarthy's Pharmacy then packages camper medications, vitamins and supplements in blister packs, labeled with the camper's name, dosing and prescription information to ensure safe administration at camp.
If your child will not be taking any medications or supplements on a regular basis we still require you to complete the form. Should your child need a prescription during camp as a result on an illness or injury, we will be able to have it filled by McCarthy's promptly.
What does “On a Regular Basis” Mean?
It could mean that your child takes something daily, multiple times a day, or frequently – like a few times a week.
The Process
1. Fill Out the Form
Click the link to complete the McCarthy’s Pharmacy Medication Request Form in your forms portal in CampInTouch.
This form must be submitted by May 5th (our forms due date).
2. Send in Prescriptions
Ask your child’s provider to send prescriptions for all medications your child will take at camp.
E-scripts are preferred (fastest and easiest!), but faxing or calling the pharmacy directly works too. This includes prescriptions for over-the-counter medications like Melatonin and vitamins.
Controlled medications are the exception. These are handled differently and must be e-scribed 1–2 weeks prior to the start of your camper’s session.
Prescriptions must be sent in by your provider according to McCarthy’s pharmacy deadline (see below).
3. Make Sure Everything Matches
The prescriptions your provider sends must match exactly what you entered on the Medication Request Form.
If anything doesn’t match, McCarthy’s won’t be able to fill it until it’s corrected and all discrepancies must be resolved by their deadline.
Here’s what that looks like:
Example 1:
You listed Melatonin 1mg at bedtime on the form.
Your provider sends in Melatonin 2mg.
→ The pharmacy can’t fill it because the doses don’t match.
The prescription or the form (whichever is incorrect) will need to be updated to reflect the correct dose.Example 2:
You listed Multivitamin 1 tab at lunch.
Your provider sends in Multivitamin 1 tab at breakfast.
→ The pharmacy can’t fill it because the administration times don’t match.
The prescription or the form (whichever is incorrect) will need to be updated to reflect the correct timing.
4. Watch for Emails from McCarthy’s
You’ll receive direct communication from McCarthy’s Pharmacy about your status whether you’re missing information, need to fix a discrepancy, or you’re all set (the email we all love to see!).
Please follow their emails carefully and reach out directly to McCarthy’s Pharmacy with any questions or concerns.
The cost of your child’s regular prescription and over-the-counter medications may differ when using McCarthy’s. We recommend discussing pricing directly with them, especially if your child requires specific brand-name medications and cannot use their stocked generic options.
We know it’s a few steps, but staying on top of them helps everything run smoothly and gets your camper off to a healthy start!
McCarthy's deadlines and fees
In addition to camp’s missed-deadline late fees, McCarthy’s Pharmacy has its own deadlines and late fees, which we’re not able to adjust. Please be sure to follow their instructions carefully to avoid any additional charges.

What if I Don’t Want to Use McCarthy’s?
Using our camp pharmacy is a requirement. You must apply for an exemption if you will not be using the camp pharmacy for medications.
Exemptions include the following medications:
Emergency allergy injection pens
Growth Hormones
Birth control pills
Medications prescribed for an acute illness within 7 days of camp
Unexpected change of current prescription within 3 days of camp.
Please note that any other prescriptions or supplements your child takes in addition to the medications described above, will not be exempt and must be filled by our camp pharmacy.
Any camper who arrives at camp with prescription medications, vitamins, supplements, homeopathic treatments, or over-the-counter medications, without prior approval will be charged a drop-off medication fee of up to $250 per medication. Note that we cannot administer anything to your child without a prescription or signed doctor's orders so you must bring that as well.
Please understand how difficult and dangerous it is for our nurses to receive unexpected medications on drop-off day. An enormous amount of vetting, cross-referencing and safety-checking is required before we can administer anything, and unexpected medications inhibit our ability to maintain these strict safety standards.
